My Creative Weekend Getaway
Life is busy, y’all. Renovations are almost done at the Village, Voxa is growing, and I’ve been working pretty long hours. Thankfully, I love what I do and the people I do it with. But between work and trying to buy a house and maintaining healthy friendships and a strong marriage, I keep saying I haven’t had time to write or be creative.
Basically, I haven’t made my own creativity a priority. Which is nota good thing. Enter my brilliant friend Maddie and her genius idea for a Creative Weekend Getaway. On Friday we packed up our bags and skipped town for Habersham Mills for the weekend, joined by my ultra-talented friend, Candi. We took time to escape the noise, the to-dos, the stresses of our regular routines to focus on some projects that give us life – the ones we usually don’t make priorities.
I wish I could have weekends like this one all the time, but let’s face it – we’re all busy. Hectic schedules are a part of our culture, and being overworked and overbooked is a badge of honor, whether we want to admit it or not. Let’s stop with the nonsense. Let’s respect each other for what we have to offer the world and not let our busyness define us. Let’s make time for more creative weekend getaways – and more creative moments of focus in the middle of the chaos of our lives. Let’s be sure we’re making room for like-minded friends that encourage us and push us toward our dreams and goals.
This weekend was a breath of fresh air for me and I’m going to hold onto the inspiration as I head back to the city and daily grind. I’m no less busy, but I’m way more motivated to make my writing a priority.
